Madrid, 21st December 2016 –  Dufry has signed an agreement with AENA, to operate six Hudson shops at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport. The news/travel stores, which are expected to open in the first half of 2017 and will cover close to 600sqm of retail space and will be located across Terminals 1, 2, and 3 at Madrid Airport. Additionally, Dufry also won the contract to operate a sunglasses shop in Terminal 1, covering 150sqm of retail space.

Hudson is the leading duty paid convenience concept in North America in travel retail, offering confectionery, personal care items, souvenirs, electronics and toys, as well as traditional print products such as newspapers, magazines and books, to domestic and international passengers. Hudson has proved to be a very successful concept for customers in North America and complements the already well-rounded range of duty free and duty paid stores that the group operates in Spain.

The opening of Hudson stores in Madrid is part of Dufry’s strategy to internationalize the Hudson concept, especially in locations where the group is already present with traditional duty free stores. On an international level, outside the US and Canada where the Group operates over 450 Hudson shops, Dufry has already opened close to 80 Hudson stores in more than 12 countries. In Spain, the group recently opened 7 Hudson stores in airports in the Canary Islands.

Pedro Castro, CEO of the Southern Europe and Africa Division at Dufry, commented: “I am very happy to introduce Hudson to Madrid-Barajas Airport. I see a tremendous potential for Hudson in Spain and this is certainly an excellent step forward. We will continue to have the full support of Hudson’s international team and will tailor this great concept to Spain’s customer profile.  With the two contracts we won in Guadalupe in late 2016, together with those we already had in Italy – including the Milan store inaugurated in December - and Morocco, the Division now proudly offers 27 Hudson stores as part of its portfolio.”
