Zurich, February 06, 2018 - The #YouNeedToKnow campaign to raise awareness of Agenda 2030 and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals returned to Zürich airport on 15 January, in time to grab the attention of people heading to the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos.

The more than two million people who pass through this airport every month were greeted by a wall-size banner and video screens promoting the #GlobalGoals. They also had the chance to learn more about each of the Goals by spinning the SDGs Wheel of Fortune.

The campaign, developed by UN Geneva’s Perception Change Project team, encourages people to take pictures against the backdrop with SDGs icons and spread the message on social media using the #YouNeedToKnow hashtag.

“Achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals requires everybody to be on board,” said Michael Møller, the UN Geneva Director-General. “The knowledge and awareness must be turned into concrete actions by us all, to reach the Goals.”

To inspire action and turn every individual into a part of the solution for the many issues affecting the people and the planet, UN Geneva has produced the booklet, “170 daily actions to transform our planet”. It offers no-nonsense examples of small and incremental - but also fundamental - changes everyone can adopt to live responsibly and to be accountable to the next generation. The booklet was also distributed throughout Zürich Airport.

Dufry has been a strong supporter of the United Nations in spreading the word about the SDGs. In 2017, the company gave coverage to the #YouNeedToKnow campaign in its stores in over 30 different airports, reaching a potential 55 million passengers in Italy, Greece, Russia, Kazakhstan, Bulgaria, Armenia, Morocco, Serbia or Spain just to mention a few.

“Dufry is very proud of supporting the United Nations in spreading the word about the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. After giving coverage to the #YouNeedToKnow campaign in our stores in 33 different airports in 2017 and reaching around 55 million passengers, we are delighted to be back in Zurich with a new campaign that aims to move individuals to transform the world by taking simple actions in their day to day lives” – commented Julián Díaz, Group CEO of Dufry. “Due to our global footprint and our privileged position in the travel ecosystem, we have an important role to play and we are fully committed to keep helping the United Nations in their mission of making the World understand that change is needed.”
