Dufry unveils its new walk-through store at Malta International Airport
Dufry has unveiled a new walk-though under its ‘Dufry Shopping’ concept
Dufry has unveiled its new walk-though Malta Dufry Shopping store, the latest of Dufry’s shops to be opened under its ‘Dufry Shopping’ concept, that allows domestic passengers to experience a shopping environment similar to a classic duty-free store. The concept was first introduced in Brazil in 2014 and was quickly expanded to seven other locations in the country. In 2017, Dufry debuted the concept in the United States, with the opening of a Dufry Shopping store at Las Vegas McCarran International Airport.
The space is dedicated to all traditional core categories; perfumes & cosmetics, liquor, food & confectionery and tobacco have been redeveloped, as well as the toy category and the ‘Spirit of Malta’ section of the store which showcases local products. The latter space has been newly integrated into the main departures store, from its previous stand-alone space in the terminal.
The opening of this retail space follows the renovation of Dufry’s Arrivals store in 2017, in addition to the non-Schengen boarding area shop that Dufry operates.
The project forms part of Malta International Airport’s wider refurbishment of the island’s only airport,to improve the passenger journey including the security clearance area, the general retail area and an extension of the check-in counters.
The Malta Dufry Shopping main Departures store changes have resulted in a +41% increase in floor space, from 970m2 to 1,370m2. This is in part due to the absorption of the annex ‘Spirit of Malta’ store, with the net increase being +20%.
Along with more space, the new store offers customers new brands not previously available at this location, including MAC, Benefit, Victoria’s Secret, Aqua Di Parma, Moroccan Oil, Jo Malone London and Rituals. Reinforcing the importance given to local delicacies and ‘sense of place’, Dufry also offers a wide range of products from the island, including Cassar Camilleri, Delicata, Baccus and Meridiana wines and liquors, Caffe Cordina and Savina brands in the food & confectionery category and regional souvenirs.
