The winner’s trophy of the largest nation-wide competition in the world of tennis, the Davis Cup, is currently in World Duty Free’s main Terminal 4 departures store at Adolfo Suarez Madrid-Barajas Airport, and will be there on display until Saturday 15th November. The trophy, one of the most emblematic in the history of sport, is being showcased in celebration of the Davis Cup Finals by Rakuten, in which the final 18 countries will dispute the throne of world tennis in the Caja Mágica in Madrid from 18th to 24th November.

Any passenger visiting the airport during this time will be able to see the famous Davis Cup Finals trophy inside the World Duty Free store and the spectacular display has already become one of the main attractions of the airport. The trophy, popularly known as the “salad bowl”, rests on three bases, each decorated with plaques engraved with the names of the previous champions. The total structure weighs 105 kilos and is more than a meter high.

It is one of the most charismatic trophies in the world of sports and has a tremendous value given its age. Unlike other awards, for which a new cup is created each year for the winning team to keep, the Davis Cup trophy changes hands each year. Thus, the “salad bowl” that presides over World Duty Free has passed through the hands of the best tennis players in history throughout the more than 100 years of the trophy's life.

The tournament, founded in 1900, is presented in a new format this year; 135 nations have participated and the final 18 will meet at the Madrid finals. The capital of Spain will witness the best tennis on the planet from 18th November and will crown the world champion on the 24th, in a competition in which Spain was proclaimed winner on five occasions (2000, 2004, 2008, 2009 and 2011).
