On November 27, 2014, Dufry signed an agreement with RIOgaleão, to operate duty free retail until 2020 at Tom Jobim International Airport in Rio de Janeiro. Dufry currently operates 6 duty free shops, 4 in the departure area and 2 at arrivals, totaling approximately 4,000 square meters of retail space.

RIOgaleão has substantial improvement plans over the next years. Until March 2016, Dufry continues to operate the existing retail space, subject to changes in terms of remodeling or refurbishment works in line with the airport improvement. After March 2016, Dufry will operate a total duty free retail space of 8,000 square meters, of which half will be in arrivals and half in departure. The retail spaces will be located to capture the full passenger flows and will allow serving all international inbound and outbound passengers.

The new space will comprise the general travel retail shop format in arrivals and departures, which will be designed according to the walk-through concept. Dufry will offer categories such as perfumes & cosmetics, wine and spirits, confectionary, as well as fashion, accessories and watches.

Tom Jobim International Airport is the second largest airport in the country and the major getaway for Brazil and South America. In 2013, the airport welcomed a total of 17 million passengers, of which 4 million were international passengers. The airport is operated by a consortium led by Changi, Odebrecht and Infraero since August 2014. Tom Jobim International Airport is undergoing a substantial improvement program on the infrastructure side to attend the passengers flow for the Olympic Games in 2016. The development plans also includes improvements in the commercial area, with a wider variety of retail shops that will enhance the shopping experience for travellers.
